Our mission working with Google Fiber this January was to develop and paint a mural that would reflect their presence in Sunnyvale and the greater San Francisco Bay Area. The new Google Fiber Office is located in the heart of Silicon Valley in the Mary Office Park in Sunnyvale, California. The Mural had to blend elements of the Google Fiber brand and feature Bay Area iconography. A mixture that reflected the beauty of the bay, and the presence and connectivity of GFibers service. In order to accomplish this creative brief we create a scene featuring some of San Francisco's most notable sites including the majestic Golden Gate Bridge, Transamerica Tower, and the Coit Tower. Artistically styled in the colors reflected in GFiber's emblem.
Sunnyvale elements included the apricots, as the area was historically known to feature orchards before the big tech boom in the area. Broader bay area iconographic elements include a Great Blue Heron in flight, three California Golden Poppies blooming, the highway 101 sign and the colorful salt ponds found in San Jose. All of these elements are meant to reflect Google Fiber's presence and connectivity in the San Francisco Bay area from the north to the south. The Google Fiber offices feature the names of Salt to identify their meeting rooms- to expand on this idea we sprinkled in flakes of salt into the composition.
Throughout the scene are elements of the Google Fiber emblem meant to further represent how Fiber is embedded into the area. The mural in their new office space required three days to paint and stands at 10' high and spans over 22' in length. The mural was protected via an interior clear coat for a clean satin finish. The mural was developed and painted by Maxfield Bala and the team at Bala Creative.
