Bala Creative: Your San Francisco Mural Painters
For the last ten years muralist Maxfield Bala and his team have painted murals in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. As San Francisco Muralists, our mission has been to create quality mural paintings to inspire communities and captivate audiences. We understand the needs and qualifications required to paint San Francisco based murals as lifelong bay area residents and qualified mural painting contractors in California. From the concept development, permitting, surface preparation, and mural painting no mural project is too large for our team.
We are specialized in the development of mural artwork through our concept development process, working with our clients through a series of design rounds to create mural artwork that is perfect for the proposed wall. However if our clients possess pre approved mural artwork for their designated wall space in San Francisco, We're adept at mural painting pre-developed artwork to specification whether that be realistic hand painted advertisements or intricate installation work.
Some of the largest murals Maxfield Bala Creative has painted over the years span over 3000 square feet or the equivalent of a roughly 100' wide x 30' high mural painting. We pride ourselves on the unique techniques and experience required for implementing San Francisco mural paintings at this large scale. From long range articulating lift operation, to special image transfer processes, and a keen eye for painting at scale stories up on a wall. However, we more often cater to smaller walls throughout the bay area. Those mural paintings tucked into office buildings, the side of local bodega walls, or those created at a cutting edge event conference as part of our mural activation services.
It can take a keen knowledge of the city to create murals in San Francisco. Maxfield Bala Creative is a fully insured C-33 painting contractor in the State of California. A legal requirement for all muralists and sign painters working commercially. This helps to ensure that your mural painting is prepped, painted and sealed on your building using best practices that are above board from start to finish. Similarly, we are well versed at securing operational and sign permits through the City of San Francisco in order to have your mural approved and painted in the city by the proper means.
If you're looking to paint a mural but don't have a wall, we've got you covered. We possess access to two wall locations in highly trafficked areas in San Francisco for advertising opportunities. These walls are located in the Haight and Ashbury and Forest Knolls districts are available to various lease options that can lend themselves well to creating greater awareness for your commercial advertising campaign or event in the city. Pair this wall without videography coverage services for additional content perfect for a social media campaign.
We've been fortunate to paint prominent interior and exterior murals throughout the Bay Area. Our work has led to coveted collaborations and relationships with iconic San Francisco brands. These mural paintings have included permanent installations in public locations like Fisherman's Wharf, interior office murals throughout the city's iconic skyline, and event activation murals from Moscone Center to Pier 39. Included below are various San Francisco mural projects we have hand painted for our clients which include Disney, The Swiss Consulate in San Francisco, Sony Music, and UCSF Health just to name a few.

Our mission working with UCSF Health, and the team's at Kiosk and Open Influence was to create a handpainted mural painting encapsulating the love people share for the City of San Francisco through a work of art featuring a figurative love letter to San Francisco. As a team we sought to celebrate the city's vibrant communities, cultural diversity, technological achievements and world renowned iconography while highlighting UCSF Health's commitment and dedication to the people of San Francisco. The mural's wall was custom built for this project and was painted in the iconic Hayes Valley neighborhood of San Francisco. Designed and painted exclusively by San Francisco based muralist and fine artist Maxfield Bala, the mural took ten days to complete from wall build to the final protective clear coats and offered a unique activation for the highly trafficked area. The Mural itself features a border painted International Orange to Match the Golden Gate Bridge's iconic color. The bottom half of the painting features a large envelope featuring the UCSF Health logo and handwritten text reading "To San Francisco, With Love". Blooming out of the envelope is a figurative collection of iconic images representative of a love letter to San Francisco. Included within the "letter" are the painted lady victorian homes, the California state flower- the Golden Poppy, and a surfer catching a wave just off the coast. Moving upwards a trolley car rolls downhill, while a bright blue lowrider- representative of the Mission District flares its hydraulics. "Karl the Fog" flows his way across the mural and gives ways to the Iconic San Francisco Ferry Building and Coit Tower. Pelicans fly overhead while the sun shines brightly onto the Golden Gate Bridge. A trumpet player belts out a tune representing the Fillmore District while a Chinese dragon puppet and lantern pay homage to ChinaTown. The UCSF Health elements are found within the Surgeon tying her mask and the DNA strand.

Our mission working with Dinsey+ and Marvel Studios was to live paint a mural for the Disney Summer Tour. We worked with Disney+ and Marvel to create a mural design based on familiar characters with storylines based primarily in the San Francisco, Bay Area. Landing on Marvel's Antman and The Wasp, artist Maxfield Bala created a unique composition based on the superhero's portraits, iconic patterns, title text, and city iconography like the Golden Gate Bridge. The Disney+ summer tour activation took place at Pier 27 and featured various tents and attractions including the live painting mural. Over the course of two days, lead muralist Maxfield Bala completed the 7' x 10' mural painting using spray paints and acrylics. The mural was featured on various local news shows, and was ultimately donated to the San Francisco Boys and Girls Club for club patrons to enjoy.

Our mission collaborating with the amazing Jennet Liaw and Strava was to paint office murals for Strava HQ in San Francisco, Ca. Jennet Liaw is an "independent designer slash illustrator living and working in NYC and the internet, respectively." Using artist Jennet Liaw's brilliant design, we painted her illustration to exact specifications requested by the tech giant. The mural spanning 35' wide and 12' tall features a variety of unique icons, symbols, and illustrations in Jennet's unique style. The two murals feature black, White and Strava Orange to read "Connect athletes to what motivates them" a slogan that runs true throughout the Stava San Franciso office employees. Our team painted the interior murals during off-hours to avoid interrupting the workplace environment.
