Mural Location: Petaluma, Ca
(San Francisco, Bay Area)
Mural Type: Commercial Murals, Public Art
Our mission working with La Tercera Elementary School was to create two large-scale exterior murals that celebrate creativity, curiosity, and school pride. The goal was to design artwork that inspires students daily while reflecting the diversity of learning, imagination, and discovery at the heart of the La Tercera community.
The first mural showcases the school’s name in a bold postcard-style composition, spelling out “La Tercera” with each letter filled with imagery that represents the school’s values, local culture, and academic focus. Within the lettering are visual elements such as the California quail, the school’s eagle mascot, local landscapes, and symbolic references to art, sports, and science including robotics and DNA, highlighting the school’s emphasis on education and innovation.
The second mural expands on these ideas, blending natural and scientific imagery to reflect the intersection of creativity and exploration. The design features a bald eagle soaring through a field of California poppies, a monarch butterfly under magnification, and molecular structures set against a vibrant cosmic backdrop, symbolizing growth, discovery, and the boundless potential of learning.
Both murals were painted by Bala Creative using professional-grade exterior paints and aerosol techniques, then sealed with a UV and weather-resistant protective coating. Together, they bring color, inspiration, and energy to the La Tercera campus, serving as lasting symbols of community pride and the spirit of learning.
